We selected the site for our vineyard due to its free-draining greensand soil, southerly aspect, and beautiful location. The first vines were planted in 1985. We grow two varieties, Seyval Blanc and Bacchus, with the sole ambition of producing top quality wines.
Our vines are planted on a magnificent south-facing slope which ensures the best possible exposure of grapes to sunlight.
The climate, soil and aspect make Godstone Vineyards a perfect site for producing grapes in England and our wines are an expression of their unique terroir.
The soil is fertile, lime-rich, loamy Upper Greensand. The cool climate of a typical English Summer allows for the slow ripening of our grapes, resulting in optimum levels of ripeness and acidity, as well as the sophistication and delicacy for which our wines are renowned.
Godstone wines are made from estate-grown grapes from our own vineyard thereby ensuring that only the best hand-picked fruit is used to craft our wines.
Our vision is about a great deal more than the production of outstanding wines.
At Godstone Vineyards we aim to contribute something special to the unique spirit of place in our beautiful part of the North Downs.
Our vineyard is situated within the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - discover more here. The slopes of our vineyard lie adjacent to the North Downs Way. Discover more about the trail here.
We have worked unceasingly to achieve a programme of developments at Godstone Vineyards which strengthen wildlife habitats and establish corridors to enhance biodiversity. For example, perennial grass is sown between our vine rows to maintain soil structure and prevent erosion ; new hedges are planted every winter ; an unproductive area of land has been rewilded … and we are proud to say that Godstone Vineyards is certified as being Climate Positive.
